Greetings from a former paratrooper. I have sent verification emails to the proper folks, so I hope to be posting soon in the other forums.
I joined the Army on the DEP the day after my 17th birthday in Sept 1986. Left for basic/AIT at Ft Leonard Wood in June of 1987 after graduating high school. My first duty station was the 562nd Engineer Company, which at the time was in Ft Richardson, AK. That unit soon after became A Co, 6th Engr Bn at the same location. After returning from deployments to several locations (including one to Panama attached to 2/75th Ranger Battalion as a train up for Just Cause), got the chance to go on a nice tour in the Sinai. That wonderful trip, which was a great time scuba diving/hanging out at Herbs Beach/hanging out at either the Wild Goose Dutch Bar or Murphys Pub, was soon interupted when a certain freak invaded Kuwait. They took our beer......the fun was over. I left Alaska in 1992 for Fort Bragg, where I was initially assigned to B Co, 27th Engineer Bn. I later served in HHC with the S-2, then the S-3, then on to Charlie Co 27th Engr Bn. before deciding it was time to focus on my kids, who were about to start school. I got out in late 1998, and I still miss it to this day.
I enjoyed several deployments around the world as part of my eleven years in the Army, and while I cant say I enjoyed them all, I can say that I wouldnt have changed a thing. Great memories. I have found several friends from some of my former units on facebook, and would love to run into some more here.
ALL THE WAY!!
