First off I'd like to say thank you to those that have and/or are serving this country, you have my utmost respect and gratitude. I know its said a lot, but it bears repeating as often as possible. Now on to why I'm here. My name is Jonathan, I'm 21 years old and am just starting the long process to joining the military and hopefully making it through to the Special Forces. I have always wanted to join the military, I felt it was my responsibility to help defend the country that I live in and that others have so bravely fought and died for and its something that I feel called to do and consider an honor. Within the past few years I began to seriously take a look at what I wanted to do within the military. I decided to start college, in 2007, and completed an Associates Degree in Networking Administration at which point I continued into a Bachelor's Degree program. My initial intentions were to finish my degree and see about getting into OCS. Since beginning my Bachelor's degree though, my plans and ideas have changed. It is at this point where I find myself today. I am currently working full time and continuing to take classes part time. I am sure that I want to join the military and I am sure that I want to be in the Special Forces, however I have no sugar coated ideas about any of this being easy. I know that its going to be a tough, long, hard road ahead, and I want to prepare myself as much as possible for what lies in store. I have an appointment on Monday to speak with an Army recruiter. I don't plan on signing anything just yet, I am merely looking for information as to what my options are. This site was recommended to me on another site, as a place where I would be able to find information on what to expect, what I can do now, and how to prepare myself mentally and physically for the challenges that lie ahead. I apologize, that was somewhat of a long winded introduction, but I'm happy to be here and I hope to gain as much information as possible from all of you. Thank you.
Damn, did he say something?? I fell asleep.

Well the recruiter was a no show. Headed across town after work to meet him, arrived 5 minutes early, lights off, door locked, no answer on the phone. Waited 5 minutes after my appointment time, still no one, so I left. I'm more then slightly pissed. Still have one other recruiter I had planned to talk to, also an instructor at one of the gyms I go to. So I'll update once we can setup a time and talk.

The Big Paratrooper in the sky is trying to tell you something.....look into ROTC or other avenues of finishing/getting degree paid for by Big Green and do it! You'll still be able to knock out some good training and will have better options when the time comes to pay back your Uncle.

That seems to be the general consensus and seeing as I'm close, I may as well grind through the rest of it. I'll start doing some research into ROTC and what other options I might have.
