I, on the other hand, accepted both. LOL. I did Whop Whop as a PFC while still in Charlie Company and I then accepted the O6 driver job as an E4 ... well my CSM volunteered me to go with him when he got promoted from Battalion.

Ah sorry brother, I did end up wishing I had stayed in my infantry company, might have reenlisted if I had. I regret getting out every day.

You got out for a reason. Do not lose sight of that. I sure don't regret it and my life has been average.

I hear and understand you. I think part of my problem is a lack of challenges, although I recently re-sided my house by myself never having done it before ... I also re-roofed the garage alone, but I had done that before. I do get a sense of accomplishment from that stuff but it seems to be pretty short lived. None of that compares to OSUT / AIT, BAC, Air Assault school ... and I imagine combat is on a level that is as incomprehensible to me as OSUT is to a liberal-silver spoon-occupy-a-tent hippie. Maybe for me it's time to try skydiving again, or get the R1 to a track and ride around that with my hair on fire.

I have not been fortunate enough to be presented with the opportunities which I desire. It leaves a void in one's soul. Some people are so easily fulfilled. That is not the case with me. I need to have a cause that means something and one that is not hollow. I know people who are really happy with what they are doing, however, if you look beneath the surface there is nothing there. That is fine with them because most people want to skate easily through life. That's not me. It is just not how I am wired.
