Default Ft Bragg Toy Jump 11 Dec

Anyone on the board actually helping/running this event?

A few guys told me that last year there was open chutes near the end of the day and that anyone was able to take them that was already there. My buddy missed out due to him being on such a late lift last year.

I only ask because I'm on lift 4 (Bostwana) and would love to get a set of Thai (I know lift 28) or Polish (lift ??) wings. Is this true? oh and i need a few more high performance jumps before I can go to JM school.

    Thanks in advance Earle

Good luck getting foreign jump wings. Too bad we did not have a Toy Jump in the early 1980's. Let us know how it goes and post a few pics. AATW!

When I was at Bragg Christmas time of '99. I won a raffle at the toy drop and I recieved my Canadien wings. When I was there you dropped off a toy to get in the raffle. The next day drove to Scicly DZ, Hollywood Day jump out of a C 130. The only difference was Canadien jumpmasters. I felt that they did not look look at you at all when you handed off your static line. However, that was probably me being paranoid. They were some squared away airborne soldiers though. Good luck getting your foreign wings.

FWIW and MOO - but with today's budget issues and calls for across the board belt tightening, including pay freezes and such, I - as a taxpayer - have some problems understanding whatever the justification may be for using our dwindling tax $$ for funding this so-called 'Toy Jump' right now.

However - YMMV...and so it goes...

I can understand where you're coming from as a taxpayer Purple but it is for training on a skill set that these guys need to maintain. The toys go to underpriviledged kids in the military community and the event fosters a greater sense of brotherhood in the International Airborne community. It's win win for everybody involved really.

Totally agree hendog, everyone benefits. The U.S. paratroopers have to jump anyways, a chance for a foreign jumpmaster to put jumpers out the door is training that benefits us and them. I relish any opportunity to train with foreign forces, it gives us perspective into how they fight and for them into how we do things. Who knows we may be fighting next to any of the allies when WW3 pops off. We get a shiny piece of bling to add to our uniform and a kid who may not have gotten a shiny new present gets one.

That bling was cool to get. I remember I got it about 7 months after being Division. I recall a Class A inspection and having only an Army Service Ribbon and Canadien of wings!

If its money you want to be saving, why not advocate that we go back to fighting with spear and shield in a phalanx like the Spartans? Better yet, sticks and rocks are free!!

Paratroopers jump, that is what they do. Kids need Christmas. Combining the two? Priceless!!

Most of the chutes are filled at this point, but I know some units have kept a few aside (usually for hook-ups for S3-Airs). Most USASOC unit run Toy Drops are completely filled, Division will still have the usual lottery, but with almost the entire Division back your chances will be much slimmer this year, CAPOC is still planning for theirs on the 14th (I think) but that is pretty much filled as well. 95th just opened up another one on the 17th, but I don't know if there will be foreign wings attached.

So, bottom line, if you're not on a manifest at this point...it isn't looking great. I'm planning to go help out on a few jumps in the hopes of getting a chute for pulling a few duties in the process.

I'm the OIC for Operation Toy Drop 13. USACAPOC(A) owns and runs the entire operation. The first day of jumping is the "Big" day on 11 Dec with 18th ABN Corps units. Initial manifest and the lottery for the open chutes is on 10 Dec at Green Ramp. Lottery begins at 0800. Bring a new unwrapped toy, ID card, ID tags, and ACH. 400 chutes are available for the lottery. 1844 will jump on 11 Dec.

We also run SOF week 13-17 Dec at St Mere DZ for the SOF units. We own the AC, the DZ, and our JMs pull all the duties with the Allies. The individual units provide the chutes for their Soldiers. If you're in ASOC see your Air NCO or chain of command for more details. Currently about 1800 chutes will be jumped over these five days.

Countries participating are Botswana, Canada, Chile, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, and Thailand. Israel had to cancel at the last minute due to the fires they are having there.

The goal is 5000 toys for needy children this year.

Thanks for dropping in Sir, but could you please refer to this link (particularly the third bolded area) and post a proper introduction. I'm sure you're familiar with SOPs and why they are in place. Welcome aboard.
