Nothing new here. It has happpened in the past. I know one of the guys in Yemen and he is a good guy. He just arrived within the last month and you can guess he is busy lately.
Plausible deniability for the host country can be a good thing as far as op tempo goes, but can hinder the safety of the operators due to lack of local support.

Black Hat: You have the rest of your Airborne life to think about it.
Not a bad thing, for as long as they're keeping clueless politicians in the dark, or feeding them with inert BS.
Plenty of successfull shadow ops in (Soviet-era) A-stan were planned and ran by KGB/GRU and excecuted by Spetsnaz.
You know what to do, boys.

I'm sure that the more things change in that arena, the more they stay the same.
The South China tea and Biscuit company was fairly successful at keeping the politicos (within and without) the company uninformed about truly black ops during the fabled South east asia war games, and the guys is SOG operated fairly free of such interference or monday morning quarterbacking.
I see this as a relatively good thing, normal command lines of authority are not invovled and thus most of the ass-covering is eliminated.
Works well in theory, anyway. Works well in real-life, unless the particular case officer at the point of the spear is a dick-wad, then...
As I think most of us are, I'm an avid student of history. I understand that with everything there are politicians that run the show no matter what, BUT I also see it as a chance for us to reach out and touch AQ where they sleep with a few less strings involved. Yes there may be more issues with support, but as I understand it, this change would most likely involve more than one branch of service therefore the support may be less to worry about.
Like Gator said in theory it works and I can see it working in real life to if run right and there isn't a cock sucking case officer running the show.
