Default Walther has a new fan

For any who are interested, I recently had a fantastic experience with the great folks at Smith and Wesson's Walther division.

I bought my wife a p22 for a concealed carry since her work requires her to go through parts of town that tend towards the dangerous side. In the process of disassembling the weapon to clean off the excess oil from the factory I managed to fat finger the takedown lever and break the left side flange completely off. After cursing myself royally for several hours I called Smith and Wesson's help line where threw myself at their mercies, and was rewarded with absolutely no resistance a brand new takedown lever and a warning to "be a little gentler with this one".

I'll post the resolution once I get the part (and if anyone really cares). For my part though, I felt compelled to share what a great experience I'd had since customer service seems to be a foreign language in the US these days.

Sounds to me like the takedown is made a little cheaply,... Either that or you need to get laid

THe P22 would not be my first choice for concealed carry as a man let alone a woman. While no one wants to be shot with any caliber, the 22LR is possibly the weakest. Yes I know all the information on the mafia hits, using Hush Puppies in the Nam, etc. A 22LR is a last resort piece when there is no other choice.

GTD do you wife a favor learn he to shoot and handle the P22 and get her a real pistol. Very least a 380ACP better 9mm. You need something that has better percentage odds of making the proverbial one stop shot. There are many quality small 9mms or better yet for purse carry 38 Spcl revolver. Revolvers are a much better choice if you are not going to commit to learning and keeping the skills to keep it in the fight in case of a failure.

Sorry to rain on your parade about the mouse gun. It is not a fair choice for protection...that is why so many police departments have requirements for minimum calibers in a back-up gun.

Probably both...wife just gave birth to our first a few months ago, lets just say gettin' busy is low on the priority list.

I don't disagree with you, I won't go into downtown Fayette-nam without .380 hollow point at a minimum, but I've taken my wife from a rabidly anti-gun person to mildly tolerant of them in the house. *sidebar* little does she know I've had a steadily growing arsenal in hidden stockpiles around the house.*end sidebar* So just getting her to commit to carrying a .22 was a major victory in casa del Juan. We'll work on transitioning her to a little larger caliber as time moves on. Baby steps, baby steps....

I echo all those sentiments, and suggest that the .380 Ruger LCP is probably as small and light as the p22, if not smaller and lighter.

Congrats on the little one. Had my third 8 months ago. How's the sleep deprivation going?

You should bring your wife to the Sizzler. There will be a few women there who really know how to handle a firearm and might help gently sway her even more. And there will be a decent assortment of playthings to become familiar with.

Barring that, you need to get off your ass and come by yourself. It's only a couple hours from Bragg and you'll get to hang out with Brothers of all ages and backgrounds. Oh, and put rounds down range with things you don't normally get to play with.

My hope is she'll take the PK380 after a while, same size and mechanics (basically). RockOut, I'll do my best to make the Sizzler, sounds like a great time (and a great excuse to get out on the Harley for a few hours). I'll be TDY through next Saturday, so it all depends on me being able to convince HH6 to let me go play for a few hours.

I bought my wife a Walther PPK/S a few years ago for her birthday. She liked it until we got it home. Apparently, she liked the idea of having a 007 pistol but she felt that working the slide was a bit too much for her. That was a plus for me and my ever growing arsensal. I ended up getting a PK 380 just because it was a good price and as it was an impulse purchase. Ended up getting her a SW model 60, .357 3.5 inch barrel . I also had a P99 back when they first came out that I ended up selling for beer money.
