Thumbs up Ranger Training 1942 - Recently declassified

Found a series of 9 youtube color shorts showing Ranger training in the pacific. (6th Batt?) The first one looks like they are bringing smoke during the selection process. There's others on weapons, boobytraps etc.

Although I got a kick out of the mixed uniforms and '03 springfields, these guys are put through the ringer.

My favorite part is the music! Gotta get that soundtrack!

Looks like they ran out of bayonets so they had to use swords instead.

The second video really says it all. There was no holding back because they were training for war. Running across logs, over water, carrying a seriously long bayonet, with someone shooting at their feet. Oh and, sure, follow me as close as you can up this muddy hill with that sharp thing pointing up my ass. RLTW indeed.

Political correctness? Somebody might get hurt, after all this is just training? Not here.

Kinda blows out the whole " in the old days it was easier because they were not as selective!" mindset. Sure they were selective as in natural selection.

One aspect I found interesting was how they carved their training area out of terrain and incorporated it into their obstacles.

Tough training - when was the last time you had a flamethrower fired over your head?
