It is that time of year again, folks.
We need to start making plans and looking toward our annual Fiesta. The great times we've had before will be remembered , new lies told, and hopefully more faces around the fire.
In the past, we've suffered greatly due to the weather. This year we're gonna try moving the Reunion up a little bit to get away from the storms that plagued us last year.
Last year the Houston Skydive was called off. Truthfully, things could have been better. We are looking at a couple of new venues this year.
The first is Pace Bend State Park at Lake Travis. (near Austin, Texas.) This State Park is nice. I've stayed there myself. Drinking is unofficially OK. Ground fires are OK as well. There are all the modern amenities such as latrines, showers with hot water, water and electric hookups. Lake Travis is a busy and fun lake with lots of people there on any given weekend. Guns are a NO-NO. I'm trying to find a local place to pop some caps.
Pro's for the Lake Travis option are that it is centrally located in Texas, thus making it easier than the Rockport option for DFW residents to get there, and it will be cheaper financially since it doesn't involve condos and fishing boats. I expect the average trip cost for the weekend to be around $200 local expenses. There's also a pretty friggin' good taco lady right outside the park for breakfast tacos.
Con's are that while it is central to Texas, nobody but Feet or CAL lives anywhere near it.And we will be at the mercy of the weather.

The second option is to get down to Rockport on the coast this year. We can pick up a condo or get some sea side hotel rooms with a pier, BBQ, order in or dine out, charter a deep sea fishing trip (~$75 each) for red snapper or bay fish for redfish (~$200 each), or just hang out and visit. I'm looking into a shootin' range down there as well.

Pro's for the Rockport option are the fishing, the sea, and the fact that many of our members live in the Coastal Bend area. Also, we'll be sheltered if the monsoon option is selected by St. Michael as it was last year.
Con's are that it is a 6-8 hour drive for us North Texans. I do it several times a year, but that may not be for everyone. Mosquitos absolutely prohibit camping outside at night. Walking, talking, and bullshitting seems to be OK, but sleeping seems to initiate an air raid of biblical proportions. Also the cost will be higher. Given sharing the cost of wherever we stay, I expect the average cost to be in the $300 range, more if one decides to go boat fishin' Pier fishing will be for the cost of a fishing license. Pretty cheap even for out of state visitors.
Let's start with two time windows and move on from there if needed.
11JUN10-13JUN10 and 09JUL10-11JUL10.
Y'all get on the muster and vote for your prefered option. Hope to see you all there!![]()

And we will be at the mercy of the weather.
