Tactical Tomahawks... Pros and Cons?

Hello, I'm looking for a little information on "tactical tomahawks," preferably from someone who has used one on a deployment or in the field, or from anyone with a good insight into these tools. What are some of the Pros/Cons to carrying one? It seems like they would be awkward and cumbersome to wear on your person on an actual mission, true or false? What kind of abuse/use did you put it through? And how well did it hold up under said use?

I imagine I'll be get answers ranging from how excellent it is to how it should be left to Mel Gibson in "The Patriot," so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I like the theory behind them and carry a hatchet when travelling in the Yankee states for work due to gun restrictions. Since I can't fly with it, I raffle it off to a local coworker at the end of each job.



No experience in wartime though.

With our 106s and TOWs being jeep-mounted, we always had a tactical tomahawk hung right on the side of the vehicle, along with a D-handled shovel.

In my opinion just carry a knife and call it a day. Why add more bulk and weight to your load out? Unless you're last of the Mohican's of course.
