    Default Escrima

I've signed up for an escrima knife course in a couple of weeks. It's a Saturday beginner and Sunday advanced class setup. I realize it's more of a "getting to know you" type of thing, as opposed to a real class, but I'm excited. I would have preferred the sticks but that's next spring.

    Anybody ever trained in these?

I sooo wanted to whip the shit out of someone with those quick little sticks.

A buddy from here in Telico was the driver of the sherrif's dept truck that blocked him at the end. He was the guy who showed up late to the takedown with the M16. His partner was the old guy who threw the asshole down in the water and
    got on him.

That was funny as hell. I watched all 2 hours of the chase on Fox news at work. I love our slow Fridays.

Man, you better learn this shit. Escrima and Kali is the shit!

    The knife stuff is awsome.

Here is the King Of Kali and Escrima

Dan Inosanto Student of Bruce Lee. Professor of Escrima and Kali. I have been to a few of his seminars. His daughter Diana is just as deadly.

One more thing. remember it was Escrimadoros, armed with rattan sticks, knives and small swords that fought against the Japanese in the Phillipines during the early occupation by the Japanese during WW2.

    It is very effective.

    Thanks, Zulu.

I was hoping for your input. The guy teaching the seminar trained under Mr Inosanto. I'm looking forward to it. I can't recall his name at the moment.

You need to contact Dan Inosanto and verify he is not a fraud. There are alot of them out there because of the Bruce Lee connection. Dan is pretty much moved in with the Machado Bros.Jujitsu.

If you youtube Krav Maga, there are some videos where folks attempted to draw their concealed weapon but were overcome by a knife attacker.

I am pretty quick. If you are with in 10 feet of me. Chances are I can get to you before you draw.

All that being said. Against an experienced handgunner; once who knows how to draw, clear and defend against the rush, my chances are very high of getting fucking dead. But if you conceal carry, you'd better train for a knife rush.

Or someone like me will get to you.

This is the part where the LEO's give their input.

I find this shit fascinating, but I'm way too old, slow and arthritic to want to get into it with any of these kind of bad boys.

I reckon I'll have to kiss somebody's ass until I can get off a good safe shot at 'em walking away.

    Sweet! Re: Escrima

    I like Kali and Escrima.
Any additional fight training should theoretically make you a better fighter. Of course there is no replacement for experience though. Ha.

A skilled knife fighter is dangerous within 7 yds but they will often take life threatening injuries in the process, especially facing a gunfighter. Most knife injuries/fatalities I have dealt with at work involve the victim living a long time and even driving themselves to hospitals etc. Unless you get brain penetration or heart penetration the victim will not die right away. It will even take a few minutes for him/her to bleed out if you sever a main artery.

If you present a knife to fight then you must expect to get cut or to possibly get shot in return. This is why I prefer to carry a gun 24/7 and be very good with it. If I am authorized to use lethal force then I want it to be as quick as possible to limit MY injuries.
I think most people could benefit from quality knife offense/defense training.
I know Zimmy will still not abandon the ol bangstick for a knife.I am sure he will wisely use it in ADDITION to carrying Mr Thundermaker.

A knife is no replacement for a gun.........but it sure is a good supplement to one.
