Default 1,400-pound bull drags officers down NJ street

PATERSON, N.J. – Police say a 1,400-pound bull that escaped from a northern New Jersey slaughterhouse dragged officers with a lasso down a street and ran 10 blocks before being captured and sedated. Chief John DeCando, spokesman for Paterson Police's animal control division, says the bull was being unloaded at ENA Meat Packing Inc. when it broke loose just before 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Police tried to corral the bull by lassoing a rope around the animal's neck, but it dragged officers down the street instead.

DeCando says traffic was light during the bull run. He says the area where the officers were dragged was not residential or near a school.

Officers finally corralled the animal and DeCando was able to sedate it.

No injuries were reported. The bull was returned to the slaughterhouse.

Why did they bother to sedate it if it was going to the slaughterhouse anyway?

I'd imagine so they could still move it. 1,400 lbs of dead animal weight is a bitch to move. Maybe they sedated it enough to calm it not make it unconscious.

When I hauled meat out of Iowa I saw this more than once . Mostly they hooked a chain around the animals neck and used a tow truck to move it .

That is no shit. As a kid I roped a large calf that got out. To keep from burning my hands I tied the rope around my waist.

Two barbed wire fences later I finally got the damn rope off. Cattle are strong.

I think we should treat the animals we eat much better than we have done. They probably sedated it because shooting it would have made a mess and it would have traumatized all the MacDonald and Burger King customers out there.

Anyway, I have been eating bison lately and it is a much leaner meat. Cooks really fast. If you overcook it, the meat gets real hard and chewy. So just enough so that the blood is cooked and that should do it.

    Bison burgers anyone?

The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value."

See below for answer. I deal with 1000 lb+ animals with gunfire or vehicles, not ropes.

Yeah is may make a little mess on the way there but it sounds good to me. We have those fancy slide-truck type of wreckers in my hood that could drag that sumbitch up.

I MAY or MAY NOT have tried that with some cattle at Ft Polk in "the box". There may have been 550 cord involved and it may have ended up bad for my hands. If I thought I could have put a cleaning rod/blanks through that cow like I did the raccoons I might have tried that instead.
