Not to be outdone by Zimmy I took a fishing trip over the weekend out into the Gulf of Alaska. One of my brothers has a 36' sailboat so I met him in Valdez last Thursday and we got out of the harbor about 10:00. On Friday. It is about 125 miles or so if you go straight out to Middleton Island but we made a slight detour to set our shrimp pots and to pick up ice from Columbia Glacier. Prince William's Sound is a very beautiful place but we had no wind to sail with and were under power the whole trip. Somewhere between 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 MPH. We ran the boat around the clock and when we got to were we were going both of us was worn out. We started fishing anyway and you could hardly get your bait on the bottom before you had a bite. The limit on halibut is 2 fish a day with a total of 4 in possession. We caught our limit in nothing flat but they were all small ranging in the 15 to 45 pound range. We kept fishing trying to get a bigger one but to no avail. We did also manage to catch a limit (same as halibut) of nice Ling Cod. Then it was a mad dash, all 15 or so hours to the ice field and shrimp pots. I had to clean and filet over half of the fish on the way back in so we would have cooler space. It was a good trip and quite productive but I must be getting old or something as I am beat down like a whipped pup.

Oh man, I'd love to come up there one of these days. My S-4 just came from there and he said he's going back when he retires. Wants to learn to fly and do that after retirement. He's a big fisherman as well. We dont have views like that in the midwest brother.
