    Default Llama 9mm .38 / .38ACP / 9mm LAR

I have this old llama pistol here, I'm cleaning it for a friend of my Dad's.

It is marked "LLAMA" EXTRA on one side and on other side it is marked as CAL. 9m/m. 38
It looks like a 1911, one site said the parts were interchangeable between the models.

I looked it up and found that it was chambered for a .38 ACP...or 9 mm LAR (?).....another site said that 9mm would chamber and fire, but would eventually end in "potential catastrophic failure".

It had old, extremely dirty (beginning to corrode) 9mm in the magazine.

I'm curious about the pistol and the calibers associated with it.
Any one heard of it before?

What kind of 9mm ammo was in it? Luger, kurtz, short, super?

The llama Super is in 9mm Largo- same catridge that fits in Astra 400(9X21). You can still buy Surplus/its a little hotter than 9mm parabellum

I've seen that mentioned. It said 9mm Largo is safe, apparently it will also chamber a few different higher pressure rounds that will damage it.

It has a grip safety that works, but the thumb safety does not work.
It is very loose and will drop out of safe position on it's own. I set the safety once then pushed it down to off...when I did that the hammer snapped forward.

There is pretty heavy corrosion under the edges of the grips.
Otherwise it is heavily worn and needs further cleaning.

It was in an interesting shoulder holster. Simple light leather holster with apx 1/2" two piece strap with buckle, comes off the top of the holster. The assembled strap is just long enough to go over the left shoulder, and the back bottom of the holster has a belt loop for your pants belt.
Pretty simple...under a jacket it would probably work pretty good.
    I'm going to make one.

The old Llama 1911 style pistols rattled like they were worn out when they were new. The new Llama products appear to be much better than the 70s and 80s firearms. Once you get it good and clean it may really get loose on you.

It could be old as shit. Somewhere else it was said that these pistols often lack proof marks if made during the Spanish Civil War.

Your pistol is at the bottom. The guy addresses the ammo question.

It has a M proof mark. I seen somewhere that makes it '41, or another site said post '41
At the same time it also said the earlier production runs of these had grip safety, the later ones did not.
This one does have grip safety

I thinks so. At first it was like it was glued together. When I first got it I couldn't pull the slide back at all.

I'll check those sites out, thanks
