1st, Welcome to the site.
2nd...the 10th Mountain is not an Airborne unit but it does fall under the 18th Abn Corps. Difference. Lots of non-Airborne units fall under the Corps.
3rd...Tell him that when he gets to jump school to be on the lookout for the 82nd Abn Division liason's office. It is in the "Patches" building (he'll know what that is the day he signs in to school). He should be talking to the liason during Ground Week (week one) of school.
Get with the liason and request an orders change to the 82nd. I've seen it work for some folks, and not for others. There were 9 of us in my jump school class looking for reassignment to the 82nd. I was one. Pretty much everyone else got sent to the 82nd instead of where they had orders to, and I got sent to Korea for a year. Following my Korea tour I went to the 82nd.
I was originally supposed to go to Ft. Campbell to the 101st Airborne, who despite their name are not on jump status (they are air assault).
Good luck to him.

I love stirring up the pot with this - when I'm wearing wings on a shirt, cap, or whatever and I'm asked if I was Airborne I always say "Yes - I was in the 82nd ABN DIV". If they respond with "Yeah I was 101st" I always say something to the effect of "Oh,, you're one of those guys who THINK they're airborne" and wait for the fireworks![]()

How do. As was mentioned, I'd do a double-check on that contract.
"Whether we bring our enemies to justice or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done."
George Bush 9/2001
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."- John Stuart Mill

to the site. Everybody here hopes your son has a wonderful time in the service. And we all thank you for being such a good father to your son.
We also are so jealous of your Intro. A civilian did a much better intro than so many of our brothers in silk.
I need a drink.
Welcome
