You're mother is not your dependent and she is not covered by tri-care.

It can be done. Go see the ID card folks to get the paperwork. You'll also have to submit a lot of stuff to DFAS, and it can take a long time (6months) to get everything hooked up properly.

Then she will be covered under Tri-care.

Its not easy but its doable..I had a troop who needed to bring his mom over and get her command sponsored. If you have a proactive chain of command and a good S1, you can get this done pretty quickly. I would def take an NCO down to the ID card section with you in order to just help navigate through all their bullshit. Plus its always good to have another set of ears to help you understand everything thats required.

    Have you checked out www.militaryonesource.com

Im sure there is some info on there for you. I use that website all the time.

My ex mother in law was my dependent while I was active. I was able to get her covered under Tri-care. As said before, it is possible but takes time and paperwork.

I'm sure you aren't the first to bring this situation to S1. Good luck to you.
