Default Range Report: Stag Arms AR15

Alright, lads and ladies, I want to introduce the newest member of the family, adopted in honor of our new Confiscator-in-Chief. It's been two months since I posted my original "should I buy this" thread so I'll refresh you with the details:

    STAG Arms

    Upper - $485
    5.56 Nato Chamber
    Forged and Mil Spec.
    Iron Sights Rear Flip/Front Post
    16" Chrome Lined 1/9 Twist
    Retails at $525

    Lower - $270
    Tactical Lower Half
    6-position stock
    Retails at $290

TOTAL cost including shipping and FFL transfer fees: $800
First things first, of course. The Porn:

Using American Eagle .223 ammunition (brass case) I set up targets at 100 yds. Having arrived at the range with hardly an hour before closing, I wasn't prepared to give it the full test. Rest assured, this will be remedied in the very near future.

I'm ashamed to admit that it's been damn near 20 years since I held a rifle but it's surprising how your training comes back to you. I had enough time to go through 100 rounds (time flies when you're waiting for the range to go cold so you can go check your targets).

No hiccups, no failures, no issues of any kind. Using the iron sights (smaller of the two available aperatures) here's the best of what I got:

Averaging 3.5" off center isn't terribly shameful, but I was much happier with the grouping. Yeah, it was from a benchrest, so what? I've got two decades of fat, lazy civilian life to overcome here.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share my joy with the rest of the family here on APO.

Oh, the guy next to me at the range... fucker was hitting the 200 yd gong with his S&W 44mag revolver.

    Asshole.

It has a bayonet lug, a pistol grip, black plastic furniture, and can accept an evil high-capacity magazine...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's on the Dems wish list.

Looks like all you need to do is zero the rifle. Adjust your sights a tad and you should be good to go. Nice grouping.

A click or two on each end should take care of the zero for me. As for the accessories... those will just have to wait; the Second Amendment Cookie Jar is currently empty.

    Very nice peashooter.

Interesting rear sight you put on it. I see hours of fun on your part getting it zeroed to different ranges.

    Nice grouping on target.

This is a home defense rifle so I will probably zero it for a 100 yards. Although, I understand 200 yds is optimum for an AR15 and I may go with that instead. In any event, whatever I set it for, that's where it will stay. I'll eyeball adjust for anything different after that.

    Nice boomstick brother.
Shoot me the links where you picked up those parts.
That is rock bottom price right now for an AR!

The cop shop I go to is getting them out the door for about $950!

I bought mine through a guy I found on GlockTalk. He's a retired state trooper now living in Vermont. I spoke to him on the phone a few times, seems like a really good guy. This particular sale was part of a group buy (I think) so that may have helped with the pricing. He does the FFL thing as a retirement hobby and was enjoying it for a while. I sent the guy a 'thanks' email and here's an excerpt from the reply I got:

I am actually thinking of getting out of this business altogether, it's not worth the trouble; too many assholes, lowballers, back out buyers, and tire kickers. I'm fucking worn out from dealing with them and trying to police them out of my For Sale threads. The owners of the web sites I'm sponsoring (which, by the way, cost me a lot of money) are lazy douche bags who don't want to do their jobs, and the moderators are useless at helping out, it's a no win proposition...
You can contact him, but I don't know if he's up for doing it. Feel free to mention my name if it will help.

His name is Mike, at http://www.paladinfirearms.com/index.php

Nice Toy and nice group, BTW the Ram target for pistol silhouette targets is 200 yds or 200 meters depending on where you shoot.
