Default The Finest 9 mm Pistols by The Swiss SIG.

These are photos by Dr. Ken Lunde I believe. These are by far the finest 9mm pistols in the world. They are made by the Swiss firm of SIG.

The Browning Hi-Power has my personal vote as the Finest 9mm pistol. John Moses Browning was a genius. He brought us the M2 50 Caliber Machine Gun, The 1911, and the Model 94 Winchester Rifle.

The Hi-Power that I purchased in 1992 is a Belgian (not assembled in Portugal which are still well made pistols). JMB said that this is what the 1911 should have been.

I have heard the Sig 210 runs like butter!

I do not want to chunk the 3 grand for it though.

Walther used to make a high quality 9mm pistol that was highly accurate, the P88.

You all have the right to have a favorite.

However, I was looking at the SIG P210 from the perspective of Swiss craftsmanship and manufacturing capabilities - you know Swiss automatic watches?

The fit and finish is superb and the machining in the inside of the pistol is superior to that of the outside of any pistol out there. The inherent accuracy of this pistol is outstanding.

The SIG Sauer pistols are of German manufacture and for other markets-different animal.

Trying to compare the P35 High Power to the SIG P210 is like trying to compare a Ford Taurus to a Bugatti, Veyron. No competition. With all due respect to John Moses Browning (The Master - as the Belgians at FN used to call him), it was a Belgian engineer who completed the design of the pistol.

This is not to take away from the acknowledged genius of the Mormon gentleman from Ogden, Utah who did not have an education beyond the 8th grade. I read his biography with great pleasure and I recommend it to everyone who is remotely interested in firearms design.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford the SIG P210 nor the Bugatti, Veyron at this time.

p.s. Please look at the pictures I included at the beginning of this thread.

The Sig 210 is arguably the finest 9mm in the world. Out of the box it is capable of 1/2" accuracy and better at twenty five yards for five rounds. Rumor has it that it can do this at fifty yards too. The drawback to the 210 is its a tad pricey--on average of 3-5K.

The X5/X6 now available from Sig are wicked accurate too. My X5 has grown on me. It is essentially a single action 226.

That said there are no 9mm pistols that can compare to a Browning Hi-Power for its lines, feel and down right mystique. Awesome pistol.

I don't like the fat box grip of the High Power and that feel is not worth only 13+1.

I prefer the CZ 75B Single Action. I think it is an excellent replacement for the High Power. There are excellent magazines 17+1 flush fit and then the +2s which make it 19+1.
The grip angle and ergonomics are superior to the High Power - in my opinion.

"Mystique" is just too highly subjective in my opinion. The Garand has "mystique" and so does the Browning Automatic Rifle in 30'06. When I choose a firearm for self protection (or "combat"-for that matter) though, mystique is not even a consideration.

For the ultimate in "mystique", I got a few Colt SAAs!
