Default Can we check someone out?

    Hey guys,
Please understand that I am not making any accusations or anything. I am simply wondering if it is possible to check someone out because of the position he is about to assume.
He is being considered for the Board of the NRA. He is probably the real thing but since it is the NRA and we want to avoid a scandal, lets check him out.
Steve Schreiner: Vietnam Vet., Airborne Ranger, awarded CIB, Bronze Star with V device and Silver Star.
This is a paid Political Advertisement. Let me know if anyone can make sure if he is kosher or not.

Is there a reason to assume he is not legit?

I would hate to think someone about to be considered for such a title would be a poser.

I wanted to know if there was a way to look at high profile cases and check them out before any damage occurred if indeed there would be any.
But I am wrong, in this country, innocent until proven guilty.

There is something about the way politicians "toot their own horns" or the horns of others. They want to impress so badly, because they know how their constituency will react given the world situation, our country's economic woes and unemployment, the inauguration of Obama, and the conservative voters in the NRA.

There is nothing wrong with being pro-gun or of having conservative political beliefs or of honoring our soldiers especially when honor is due.
But I get uneasy when politicians of any bent or orientation, use or push military honors like some crass salesman (or pimp - a harsher word).

It is good to honor our heroes, that is not the issue however, the issue is will he represent us faithfully, professionally, and equably? Or is he just another yes man on the board of directors of the NRA that will rubber stamp everything the real power brokers will push forward (agenda wise).

Large and powerful entities like the NRA have their own agenda and it depends on who is doing the steering.

Maybe I'm seeing more than is actually there and I should just blindly go along to get along.
But like you both have said, has he done anything to give me pause. No he has not, and he is probably the genuine article and an honorable man.

But damn, I just get real twitchy when politicians start waving the flag and polishing the medals - know what I mean?

I know what you mean Bro. But I wouldn't worry about it. If he is embellishing his war record I am sure it will be found out.

And a word to the wise....tread lightly. I came close to calling a Seal out once in Albuquerque because he flubbed a few questions. Turns out he was the real deal! I apologized to him a week later and he said "No sweat, I don't blame you for checking me out. I appreciate that you did!"

Anybody that is legit, should not have ANY problem with being checked out.

Having said that, why didn't the guy say which Ranger company he was in, attached to which unit.

That's the only issue I would ask about.

I see where Ricardus is coming from. This isn't the first time someone looking up to a job has been vetted. There have been some similar cases where the guy ended up being a poser or embellishing....politicians in particular.
Ricardus has the attitude of "well...if you want taken seriously when you use your service as a selling point...then get verified".

Not so far off of the mark we set here.

If he is going to use being a Ranger and distinguished veteran, to lobby a spot as an NRA big wig full disclosure of his service should be known.
