I have a relationship with a midget who pimps chickens. He sets up some great parties in the hen house. Here is Ops and SkySoldier at the last one...

Man, someday you're gonna be under suspicion for something, and they're going to search your hard drive.

I've love to be around when they start discussing everything they found on there....

Fine, crabby. While you're getting another cup of coffee and improving your disposition, I'll add my book suggestions:

    Thanks Ops.
The first one looks good, the second - not so much, and the third - well, I've already seen Little People, Big World on TV :)

I looked, and my local B&N doesn't have the Gavin book - I'll have to order online. B&N also doesn't even carry "Those Devils". I'll have to look into Amazon.

Gavin, along with Ridgeway, were in many ways the progenitors of the use of American airborne forces in combat. As you may have figured out in your reading, our country was a bit behind the power-curve in developing and learning to use paratroopers in theatre. But these guys helped set the standard of high performance that is still a part of daily life in airborne units. It is one of the things that all paratroopers, past and present, share. Many of the characteristics of modern day airborne units are driven directly by the work these men did in World War II.

I got to meet General Gavin before he passed away. Very short guy as I recall, but with a great deal of presence and bearing.

    Hope you enjoy the reading.

    Sweet! Re: Book Suggestions

A Lot of the stuff by David Hackworth is really good and based on real events. I also recommend almost anything by Stephen Ambrose (the Band of Brothers author).

Tom Clancy's book Airborne gives a decent overview of the 82nd and its requirements, composition, etc. It is dated as things change, but a good start.

I read alot of Clancy's fiction back in the day, but never any of his non-fiction.

After awhile it seemed like his characters were just all too good to be true - the best in their field, all world-respected, everyone was just too wonderful and never made a mistake. Seemed like even the janitors were ex-Special Forces guys or something.

I also found it eerie that Clancy wrote about a commercial airliner being used in a suicide attack against the Capitol --- way back in the 90's.

...and now here you are. The one place on the internet where those characters hang out! What a coincidence for you...

and I didn't learn my lesson from GERONIMO - I mistakenly put "ex" in front of Special Forces - sorry.

Just so you all know He was there researching that book when I was there. I never saw him but we all knew he was there. He hung out with Petraeus a lot from what we were told.

Oh yeah, he did pick the best unit to follow around. 504 BABY!!

No, he picked the only unit not in the field, I imagine.
