Thread: Retirement Questions

    Default Retirement Questions

Anyone know how you can calculate what retirement pay would look like?

I did 12 years active and want to figure out my options on pay, in the NG you have to get points..

I was told if I went active and retired with a cumulative 20 I would not get pay until 60 because in order to get pay the day you retire you have to do consecutive 20...

How does the point system work in the guard??

I'd not heard of the "consecutive 20" thing. That seems wrong to me.

Test: The points thing is pretty confusing you need to look at a RPAS statement. If you are missing anything you need documents to prove it.

I have enclosed a link that has a link to the retirement calculator. I am a AGR guy and worked as the Readiness and Operations NCO and tried to square away guys in the Detachment and have gotten alot of "what i thinks", even I may give you some of those so here is the website that answers them all.

Big thing is get your RPAS or look in your IPERMS. Update what needs to be updated and than plan your retirement. Than go to the expert at your state, they have a manager that handles all the reitrement point issues. You need to check though, they left out 2 months of my basic tng and it was a bitch to fix. I personally am going to retire in 3yrs with a Active Duty Retirement and I did 8 yrs in the RA and 12 years AGR with a 5 year break in service. We had a Vietnam vet that went over 18 active in Iraq and they had to keep him on active to hit his reitrement. so there are alot of rules and loopholes out there,,,,again talk to a expert not a shithouse lawyer....Take Care and Stay Safe...

If you have any combination of 20 active duty years and you retire while on active duty (even mobilized) then you qualify for immediate retirement.

If I get it right you get one point for every day on active duty and one point for every drill period you perform. There is a set number of points you have to accrue annually for it to count as a "good year" towards retirement. Even if you miss having a "good year" the points still count for retired pay.

1 point for each day of active duty. 365 X 20 years is 7300 points.

With 12 years of service you have 4380 points plus whatever active duty you have done since leaving AD.

Annual tours are 15 points.....1 for each day.

Now if you reach the magical 18 years of cumulative AD time you can enter what is known as "Sanctuary".

If you are on orders when you enter, then YOU CANNOT betaken off orders unless you want to. You will be allowed to remain until you reach 20 years of active service then you will be retired immediatly.

Now you can, while in sanctuary, sign a waiver stating that you won't declare and you won't be retired.

We have about 10 loadmaster with over 18 years of active service and two with over 20. One guy has 24 years of total active service and he hasn't hit his 33 year high year tenure.

He can quit tomorrow and draw his money right away.

Me, I have a little over 11 years TAS and generate about a .25 a day for every day of active duty I do. So every 4 days of AD equals one more dollar in my retirement check.

I have over 25 years total service so right now I will at age 60 only receive around 28% pay then the active duty guy who retires at 20 years TAS with 50%.

Had I stayed in i coulda been retired at age 37 1/2 with 50%.

Do as much AD as possible. It will pay you in the long run.

Log on to your AKO account > On the right side under "Army Links" click OMPF (It might say OMPF Reserve or National Guard) > Click on your component to access your record > On the left side, click the retirement tab. It will display all points for all years of service, as well as points detail, points correction, retired pay calculator, and retirement information package.

You may be better off just wandering into a room with a hundred PTSD patients while wearing your "Taliban are Great" and "Osama is my lover" t-shirts. Back up, punt, and try again homeslice. I'd say your're barking up the wrong tree in a forest full of them.
