    Default British 5th Airborne Division

Look for the user ID "Fosters."

He's claiming he served in the 16th Parachute Brigade of the 5th Airborne Division. When asked to clarify, he confirmed that's what he meant - not the 6th Abn Div.

I cannot find anything about a British 5th Airborne Division on the google search engine.

Am I missing something or is this chap being dishonest?

I don't know about anyone else but I don't care if I live to be 300 years old - I won't forget that the 82nd is an Airborne Division and not a Brigade. And I won't forget the 75th is a Regiment and not a Division.

If I showed up to APO telling people I was in the 325th Parachute Division, do you think I might raise a few eyebrows and stir a little suspicion?

I think this guy is FOS.

When I joined in 1980, the British airborne units were in 16 field force, and the hats wore the yellow donkey on their arms. Around this time the brass had decided to reform an airborne brigade and this was to be 5 Airborne Brigade. The 2nd and 3rd Battalions the Parachute Regiment were the spearhead ( 1 Para were to be posted to Hong Kong I think), 7 Gurkha rifles, 9 Sqn R.E., 7 R.H.A Royal Artillery, 216 Airborne sigs, And a Para field ambulance (medics) my memory may be playing tricks on me as I think they may be 216 or 215, or I may have mixed the sigs or the medics, there was also talk at the time of reforming 16 Guards Independant(para) in a pathfinder role, but they were still talking about that when I demobbed in 85. 5 Abn Bge did go to the South Atlantic in 82 but 2 and 3 Para's were attached to 3 Commando Brigade at the time along with their elements of 9 sqn, Sigs and Medics. We even travelled seperately. 2 Para on the Norland, 3 Para and Marines on the Canberra and 5 Abn Bge on the Q.E.II. I hope this brief outline has helped.
