Yeah, most of 2/505 went down with the old style disco BDUs...wide collar only one weight...heavy as shit. The smarter lads had OG-107s or ERDLs in their rucks.

We were issued 107s while I was in Division and you could wear them up until I left in Sep 86.

Everyone had cool uniforms except me...FUCK!

At least I got cool boots. I still have a pair of green jungle boots which I cherish.

I got a no shit story....
Me and some other guys were tasked to acquire some vehicles. Of course with all the stories about booby trapped items we were being careful....or trying to be. We were looking at this dump truck. One guy was looking in the cab, one was under the hood and I was looking under the truck. The guy looking under the hood says..."hey Jack, look at this" so I climb up on the front bumper and me and him are bent over the engine compartment when all of a sudden the motor jumps up at us!
Both of us jump off the truck like it's fixing to explode! The other guy rapped his head off the hood pretty good, and we both go rolling down this hill.
I came to a stop still expecting something to blow up when I hear the guy in the cab yell out....."huh....Hey! did you guys know you can start these fucking trucks with a p-38??!!!"

Thats a different no shit there I was AbnJack. To all others thanks and I'll get mine posted up later. I never finished the story on my last mission because of lets just say to type it out I do get "Locked". But everything else is no problem. Hell I can laugh at some of the crap. A few of you have read it over at another site but I never finished the story. I'll try to get it done because doing the interview for the book was hard but was a good relief to get the shit out.

Didn't intend any comparison...was just reminiscing myself.

Of those two other guys, one died in an automobile accident in germany and the other one we can't track down. But I've talked to a few of the other guys in the last few years.

I forgot the smiley... Just kidding that was a good insight on things that went down there. I hope you didn't take it wrong. When everybody reads what I post there is some shit that is just as funny but wrong you know what I 'am saying. By the way screw my spelling and stuff. I was born a poor black child that never got to do Darks mom.

Being the new guy here I just came across this thread.

    Great photos!

Har, does any of you photo collection have any with the Second Brigade TOC?

I was in the TOC the day it was hit by that A7. I ended up very seriously wounded and was in the hospital for many months afterwards.

I saw you posted pics up of the Calvigny Camp. We at the Second Brigade TOC were coordinating the prep fire for that H-Hour insertion of the Rangers there. Ironically it was one of the A7s that we had been using on the Calvigny targets that came over and shot us less than an hour later....prolly less than a half hour even. The Marine Anglico team that was in the vicinity got way out of hand in trying to help our forward deployed units right in front of the TOC (We had moved the TOC to Calliste Barracks four hours prior) suppress some enemy resistance in front of us.

The battle that transpired near the drive in and enemy motor pool was just north of the TOC I believe near the hamlets of Ruth Howard, Sugar Mill, and Frequente. The TOC had taken positions up in Calliste Barracks (basically a big long craphole building clad in 3/4 inch pine boards and two by fours). I had a clear view of what was transpiring below us as we observed what was happening. Once the enemy positions were identified it was determined by the TOC and the Forward Air Controller that the enemy positions were way too close to our infantry and engineers for an airstrike.

The next thing we know an A7 appeared on station right level with the barracks and shot us with 20mm cannons. (The Marine Anglico had called it down and off target). Seventeen out of twenty five members of the TOC were hit in the strike. Of those, three of us were VERY serious, myself, Sean Luketina, and Sgt Joey Stewart. As I said in my intro, I am here today thanks to the very courageous exploits of several members of the TOC who got me out of there and to medical treatment quickly. I do wish to this day that they had not dropped me off the door they were carrying me on three times getting down the hill!!!! I am not sure where the medics and stretchers were but I am still thankful they made do with what they had on hand!!

Eventually I ended up in the hospital at Fort Sam Houston was on the same ward with one of the Rangers who we were doing the prep fire for the insertion at Calvigny. IN fact, he and myself were on the USS Independednce for the first several days after getting shot etc. First Lt. (eventually Captain) Bill Eskridge was his name and he and his team were in the lead chopper to touch down and was getting out when the second blackhawk went out of control and landed on the first. He ended up losing his right leg.

I got to 2/505 in Aug 1987 and we were still wearing OG107's. They were not issued but you could wear them if you had them. I went down to Yadkin Rd and purchased some....
