I got a GWOTEM for A-stan in '02 and it's never been converted to an OEF medal. Not that it matters, but just a tidbit of info.

For those that have been verified, if you've been to a combat zone but don't have your campaign ribbon under your username shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up.

Ok heres what I know as far as campaign medals, etc. The qualification for the GWOTSEM in Iraq, is no longer active. I had a buddy that deployed from rear D to join us and got there back in part of 05. He barely made the time by 30 days because then it was taken of for Iraq, but is still current For A-stan and Im guessing still the Phillipines. Anyone having gone to Iraq since that tiem Receives The Iraq Campaign Medal, not the GWOTSEM. The cutoff date for the GWOTSEM in Iraq was 30-April-05. Thats means that SOWT, you and your buddies will receive the ICM. After my unit came back in 05 we were told we could wear the ICM OR THE GWOTSEM, but not both unless we went on a 2nd deployment to have 2 different seperate qualifying periods for each medal. So technically we were awarded both due to the time frame we were there, but not able to wear both from a single deployment. And you didnt have to be in Iraq for 60 Days to get a GWOTSEM SOWT. The criteria for it was 30 consecutive or 60 non consecutive. Same for the ICM.

I was under the impression that the Expeditionary Medal was a big deal. I thought it was reserved for the intial invading forces. Or I may have that mistaken for the Arrowhead I have on my AFEM. ?? Maybe it's the Arrowhead that means you were a member of the initial invasion.

Yes, I was mistaken. I was thinking about the Arrowhead Device:

The Arrowhead device is a decoration of the United States Army which is issued as an attachment to certain service medals. The Arrowhead device is awarded to any service member who participates in an amphibious assault, a combat parachute drop, a helicopter assault landing, or a combat glider attack.

Here are the current Regulations for the GWOTEM. Apparently its no longer available for A-stan either.

Here is what the GWOTSEM looks like. Dunno what the AFEM looks like but its prolly a different medal that you have your arrowhead on LJ. My last post was about the GWOTEM, not the AFEM.

I am of course proudest of the first Afghan Campaign Star, Liberation. During that time frame is when I conducted my first four combat airdrops on October 12, 14, 17 and 21 October 2001

The second phase is when I conducted the other three. 4 July 2006. A fitting day. Operation Mountain Thrust.
