"Well ya see, shadowcop, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as
fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the
slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural
selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and
health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the
weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate
as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we
know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and
weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer
eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more
efficient machine. ! That's why you always feel smarter after a few
    beers."

Well then I reckon I will be putting some slow cells down tonight cuz its almost beer thirty here
And I still havent found the criteria I spoke of earlier

We went Sherman for the JOTC course in 86. Same certificate, same patch.

Although sometime after that the patch was taken off the BDU's due to some new reg that pitched it in the bucket.

Same happened with Foreign jump wings being on the BDU's

Yep. Before that the Jungle Expert badge was only worn on BDUs/fatigues. The Army took it off Greens in the regs in the early 80s, I think.

    LOL!

This topic reminds me: We used to have Imjin Scout patches as well. They stopped authorizing those for wear but, just like Jungle School, we were still awarded the certificates.

I received my Imjin Scout certificate in 1990.

Went to the Spec Ops / ABN Museum with the Paw-n-Law the other day.
It is amazing what stuff people use to be able to wear on their uniforms.

Any thoughts on why the changes?

My only guess is as time went by the Army Leadership got weaker and chose to stop letting people stand out...
Must have been real mean to others who were lazy worthless bastards...

Exactly Bro, it had to be a jealousy thing from all the REMF's who've taken over the Army.

The galleon is symbolic of the Carribean, Spanish galleons were once the dominant ships of the Carribean. The red maltese cross symbolizes Columbus, the first explorer of the region.

The patch design is taken from the Carribean defense Command (CDC) patch and shared by U.S. Army South (USARSO) and the School of the Americas.

Jungle warfare training in Panama began with a U.S. presence in 1911. More formal training occured in 1943. The school in it's various configurations (JWTC, JOTC, JOC, School of the Americas) began operation in 1953 and ended in 1999.Under the 1977 Torrijos-Carter treaties, the United States military withdrew from Panama and turned over control of the Panama Canal and other territories and facilities.

The JOTC became the JOTB during Operation Just Cause. It began operations seperately as Task Force Sherman and later joined with 7th ID as Task Force Atlantic. It was, at the time, the only unit ever awarded a battle streamer while on TDA.

During the schools existance the 33rd Infantry, 20th Infantry, 8th Special Forces and 193rd Infantry conducted the training.

The JOTC also operated the AirCrew Survival Course and Engineer Jungle Warfare Course.
The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved. - Confucius

Do any of you remember the Arctic expert patch

You had to attend both the summer and winter course at Camp Black Rapids, Alaska to be awarded it. I'll see if I can find a patch for it..

YEAH! The Army Chief of Staff is a tread head and the Sergeant Major of the Army is a leg!! Look at the last two studs that were in those seats and you got a Snake eater (General Schoomaker) and a Vietnam vet (CSM Tilley) that survived his whole platoon getting shot out from under him. I'm not saying that they're wussies............what

I went to the winter warfare school. I'm assuming you're talking about a different course?

During the late 60's the 1970's and early 80's there was two phases to the become an Arctic Expert
The winter warfare course was only half of it.
The other half was summer with mountaineering, glacier work & river boating; in all about a months worth of school

Here's the patch again since it got red X'd in prior post
