Well yougster at least you say you have nuts. Now what is this problem of yours? We may be able to help.

I saw him posting on Mil.com. He was in the Airborne forum saying he wanted to be a Paratrooper and he was enlisting in either the Reserves/Guard. Apparently he's been dealing with a recruiter already and has a date set to enlist on Wed. with hopes of "making the best of it" regarding getting Airborne.

He's from Florida and I gave him the POC for 20th SFG. If he wants to be a Paratrooper he needs to make contact with them. I'm not aware of any other Airborne units in Florida.

Unless he wants to go Active Duty which is another option.

    What's the story stud?

It says in his opening statement he is joining the reserves. The only units that get BAC slots are CA. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't all reserve SF units get deactivated back in the 90's??

That's correct Psycho. He'll have to tell his current recruiter thanks but no thanks. Unless his recruiter can put him in the 20th, that I dont know. Apparently he was supposed to have a meeting with him yesterday so we'll see.

    Here's his post from Mil.com

Been busy with the holidays and such haven't been able to post.

Well I tried to called my recruiter it went to his voicemail.

Someone told me that I was able to join the Army at 17,but with the reserves.I thought it was a pretty good idea.Join the reserves get basic out of the way,and once i'm out of highschool I could go to OSUT and then jump school, but after reading someones post on mil.com,which seemed like he was doing the samething as me,I made a big mistake, since getting out of my current unit could be a pain.

So my plan was to just get any ol MOS for the reserves.Since my recruiter told me that I didn't have to go to AIT.So once I went Active all i would have to do is get a brand new contract with 11b option 4.

So I posted on this site and mil.com to see if anyone had any ideas of a MOS I could get on my contract so that once I did go Active I could become a Paratrooper.

Thanks for the welcome and happy Holidays.

That just gave me a headache.....

If that's what you intend to do IMO you need to just finish high school and DEP in. Forget this "get basic out of the way shit". DEP in your senior year with an 11x Opt 4/Fort Bragg contract.

Anybody else want to chime in? Am I steering him wrong?

I was going to do the same thing as you and what I was told by my recruiter and others was once you sign that contract, split op or not, they don't have to let you out of the reserves or re-class. Getting stuck with human resources or supply is just too big of a risk in my eyes but hey, it's your 4 years not mine. Like someone on here told me when I joined, the army has been here for over 200 years, it'll be here when you graduate.

If I had it all to do over again, I would have waited to go in, instead of doing the whole split-op thing. Theres only so much time in your life to get drunk and chaise puss. You're missing out on alot of high school and life experiences by trying to rush everything.

Enjoy your teenage years while you have them. Once you ship to basic life is a whole new ballgame.

Ok Kid here is some help from someone out just over a year.

You sound like joining is a high priority.

What kind of shape are you in? push ups, pullups(dead hang), sit ups and a 2 mile run. Hey we all wanted to fuck the prettiest girl in the classroom. If you a fat and ugly one your chances are slim to none. Ugly we will take. Weak or fat go lose the weight. Get in shape and give us a call.

Second I applaud you for seeking out the truth. recruiter will say anything to get you to sign and raise your right hand then its TOO LATE. Go see a recruiter and tell him you want option 4 in your contract or thanks but no thanks. DONT TAKE NO OR SIGN NOW AND APPLY LATER. LATER NEVER COMES AROUND.

OK hero, I have two questions for you.

    1. What the fuck are you trying to avoid rushing this?

    2. You look up and tell me what the process is for getting released from the reserves to go active duty. After you have that process tell me why you cannot do what you want to do.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!! It was said earlier in this thread that the Army will be there when you graduate. Go Active and get what you want up front or there is no gaurantee. If I had a dollar for every sniviling and crying soldier I had come up to me trying to be released from the reserves only to have it shot down, I would not be working on fucking christmas on the back half of a 48 hr shift on the ambulance. Once you enlist in the reserves you will only get released after AIT and if you are excess to your unit and if you are fucking lucky. Then you get to go active in your current MOS. DO NOT think that you will be able to use the Reserves or NG for a "stepping stone" to get what you want. I will not say your recruiter is lying to you...I think you are lying to yourself.

I tried for two years to go active from the reserves and was not released to do so. So I made the best of it and volunteered to deploy at the first chance. So you might want to listen to this. Now go and research what I asked you to and answer my first question.
