Good Stuff!! McNab's "Bravo Two Zero" was a favorite pass-around book while deployed.

In case ya'll haven't seen, Chris Ryan (one of McNab's teammates in B20) is on "Special Forces: Untold Stories" quite a bit on the Military Channel. He has a few books out as well, including his version of the B20 account.

    Good stuff, GB!

You are all aware that "McNab's" account in Bravo Two Zero is:

    1. Generally Bull
    2. An extraordinary account of incompetence

    (Oh, it's not a choice. It's both)

I take anyone that writes a book about their exploits with a Grain of salt.

Have any of you met Richard "Dick" Marcinko he's an ass of the highest Caliber I met him at the Main PX at Bragg on one of his book signings he's an asshole and some of what he said he did in his book is true, some isn't and some is how HE remembers it. I like to read his books, doesn't mean that the guy isn't full of shit...It's a book/novel. I take this stuff about and by McNab with a grain of salt too. but there are many in the world that believe that if it's in print its fact.

I could not agree more...I liken it to watching movies...the more special effects (so to speak)...the more eye catching it becomes.

I have also heard the same thing from another bro about Marcinko!

He might not be 100 percent correct in his accounts of the endeavours he and his team went through...

Nevertheless, he was still SAS, anyone of our allied nations spec ops guys taking the fight to our common enemies...will always get my respect...no matter if he adds a little extra "frosting to the cake".

There are lots of great Soldiers in the SAS. I've had the priveledge to work with some of them. "McNab" isn't one of them (great Soldiers).

I don't know any Special Operator who read his book and didn't wince multiple times during the section on preparation for the patrol. FUBAR is an understatement. And the RSM tried to square him away (which he doesn't mention in the book) and he completely ignored it. In addition, the description of the break in contact and loss of members of the patrol is truly an account of incompetence.

In addition, the account in B2O is not the same as the account he gave in debriefing to his Squadron when he was released by the Iraqis. When the book came out, the Regiment was a bit suprised by the content and sponsored an investigation to find out exactly what had happened. Turns out that most of the things that McNab wrote about the actions of the patrol itself were total horse manure. So was the info he gave the Regiment in debrief.

The opinions of those in the UK Special Forces are those that I consider of the most relevance when it comes to "McNab". They seem to be pretty uniform in their opinion that he is an oxygen thief and a "wanker".

Based on the opinions of their peers in their respective units? Yep.

There is a half decent book out by Michael Asher called The Real Bravo Two Zero. I can't vouch for the guy but his book makes for amazing reading regarding B20. Apparently he went back and retraced the route the patrol took and met many of the people mentioned in the book and got first hand accounts of what actually happened. B20 hasn't done the Regiment any favours regarding its reputation. Another member of the B20 patrol, Mike Coburn, also wrote his account in a book called Soldier Five.
