It’s been said that there have been three generations of infantry rifles following World War II. The first generation put in place new manufacturing technologies to increase production volume of magazine-fed, select-fire service rifles like the M14. Then the private firearms industry advanced designs that reduced production cost and incorporated materials like impact-resistant polymers and aluminum to lessen weight. The select-fire M16—developed around the 5.56 cartridge—offered improved ergonomics and is an example of that second generation.Today we are in the midst of the third generation of the modern battle rifle. And Beretta, the oldest active small-arms company, has contributed to each of them. So, we set out to examine that with this Beretta ARX100 review.
Like the M14, the first-generation 7.62 Beretta BM59 was based on the M1 Garand. It offered select-fire operation and featured a detachable 20-round magazine. The BM59 was replaced by Beretta’s AR70/90, which, until recently, has served 14 nations. In 2008 Beretta closed its recent generation gap with the introduction of the select-fire ARX 160.
The ARX line makes the most of the newest materials and quality control systems while enhancing ergonomics, lowering maintenance requirements, maximizing user adaptability and offering system integration with implements like the Beretta GLX 160 (a new 40mm grenade launcher). In the last five years, the ARX 160 has earned its place in the ranks of Albanian special forces, the Italian army, Mexico’s Federales and the military of Turkmenistan. As of this writing, special operation units in Argentina are also evaluating the ARX 160 for adoption.

A little background: I have a Cousin just a couple years older who passed away in Feb this year. We did a lot of hunting back in the day, especially Duck hunting. Both belong to the same gun club, etc. I knew he had quite a few firearms but not exactly what. Any way his wife called about a week ago. She is selling the house and personal property at an auction this month and moving to FL to live with her daughter. She said the boys took all his guns but one. She was going to sell it at the auction, but the boys told her to call me and see if I wanted it. She had no idea what kind of rifle it was, etc. She said I could have it if I wanted. I replied "letmethingaboughtityesIwillberightover" without taking a breath. Anyway this is it. First pic is as it was, a Yugo RL SKS, last pic is as it is now. I decided to remove the grenade launcher and sights, and the bayonet which was the wrong one for the launcher and was non functional. Now it is basically a standard Yugo SKS and the barrel is a lot lighter

Know-nothing girl installs own mag tube extension on only one cup of coffee!

Kinda proud of myself! No big deal for you guys with experience and a shopful of gadgets. But for me, messing with the expensive new shotgun with BigLots tools was a bit intimidating!

Nordic components +3 extension and barrel clamp from Brownell's. Could really have used a +4 or +5, but those seemed to be back ordered unto the end of time. This gives me 6+1 , which for a newb should be fine.

Sorry for the personal back-patting, but I'm just tickled!

I've decided due to the price of meat I'm going to get back into deer hunting this year. I used to hunt with a 44-magnum carbine handed down from my dad
(loved that rifle) but I'm going to be hunting in the mountains where the deer have some meat on them. Reading Guy-Mullens thread I've decided to go with the
.375.

What do you think? any input is greatly appreciated. I like the idea of the trigger adjuster.
What about a scope?

When the .375 H&H Magnum cartridge was launched to the public, the company claimed that three differing bullet weights could be used in the field without the need for altering the shooters point of aim. This always sounded like an impossibility to me, but today, I got the opportunity to see whether there was any merit to their claim. The Holland claim was that the 235gr, 270gr and 300gr could be used over the more common shooting distances without altering the point of aim, thus greatly simplifying the task of PH's and their clients. At the range today, preparing for a weeks hunt next month, I had a pal re-load some of my cases with 270gr bullets rather than the 300 gr ones I usually use. Using a target with many small concentric ringed targets on it, I shot two groups of three rounds from both bullet weights without altering my point of aim at 100m. The slightly bigger group, in 300gr was shot with ordinary cheap factory ammo and the smaller with the 270gr hand loads. As you can see, the results speak for themselves. I now need to get hold of some 235gr bullets to prove the claim totally.

Ok, I understand the rush to clean the shelves of any kind of ammo made in the beginning but I'm kinda to the point of calling bullshit to the hoarders that think they have to have 50K BB's and even more .22 & 9mm. Free enterprise of going to the big stores and buying out the weekly ammo supply and then showing up on the gun show circuit is BS. I'll tell you what's bullshit, $150 for a brick of .22, $20 for a box of 50 but I can still get a box of .45 for under $30 and a box of 9mm for under $25? Horseshit. I understand supply and demand but if the supplier (ammo maker) is charging that much for a box of 50, then ammo is most definitely the new black crude. Too bad the govt is so anti-gun otherwise, I'm sure they would have no problem with fucking with those that are price gouging.

But the icing on the cake is the availability of magazines. I'm beginning the think there are firearms users out there that believe as the brainless congresswoman from where ever she was from, that believed that once a magazine was fired up, it was no longer any good, that it was not re-loadable. That has to be why it is so hard to find certain magazines.
